Graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked as a principal investigator in research projects in the field of Food Hygiene and Technology of Animal Origin and during his PhD thesis he participated in the work of the Laboratory of Milk Hygiene and its Products. He published research papers and articles in international scientific journals.
He worked as a chief assessor at the National Accreditation System S.A. (ESYD), as a scientific consultant in food processing and manufacturing industries and as a scientific manager of food microbiology laboratories.
During the Greek Presidency of the EU (2003) he chaired the CODEX ALIMENTARIUS Committees in food hygiene, milk and dairy products, as well as meat, poultry meat and poultry products.
As a staff member, he participated as National Representative in European Commission and Council meetings.
